The Queensland Boulder Opal Association.Inc
The Queensland Opal Association’s (QBOA) function is to ensure that legislative and regulatory bodies controlling the industry have appropriate policies that are suitable to the needs of the industry and the promotion of this rare, unique product, Queensland’s Boulder Opal.
Vince Evert and a committee of local miners founded the Queensland Boulder Opal Association in Winton in 1992. Vince was born in Winton in 1932 and had long realized the potential of this beautiful gemstone. Vince was elected President of the committee, which organized the first Boulder Opal Auction held in Winton on the 29th May 1993, and was indeed successful. Vince had a long affiliation with boulder opal and the QBOA until his death in 1998, and is fondly remembered as a modern day pioneer and his commitment to the opal industry. Today, the QBOA is recognized as the peak representative group by industry and government bodies for the Queensland opal industry.
